Tour de Force 1 feat. Jessica: Celebrating 40 Years of the Nike Air Force 1

1. Let the people know who you are and what your current hobbies are?

My name is Jessica (IG: @studiodidonato)! Born and raised in Toronto. My hobbies pretty much fall in line with my day-to-day work; that being interior design. I run my own design firm and have the pleasure of working on unique projects with cool people. I am drawn towards most design related things…interiors, architecture, fashion, and furniture. I love music, and no matter what I’m doing, the tunes are blasting in the background. I also really enjoy cooking and am always looking for a great dish to enjoy with good company. Lastly, traveling is a big one for me. I haven’t been able to do much in the past two years but I’m hoping to book my next trip very soon.

2. How did the classic 40-year-old Air Force 1 first get introduced to you?

Air Force 1 was first introduced to me in primary school. Ever since the second grade I’ve been sporting AF-1’s, even now I still regularly work them my wardrobe/lifestyle. The brand has been so successful in creating timeless sneakers (for both adults and youths) and help define a person’s individuality and style.

3. What are your thoughts on the latest AF-1’s being constructed from recycled materials? Do you feel it takes away from the traditional look and feel of a staple, or do you think it’s necessary in order for Nike to move towards a carbon-neutral industry?

Working in design, I have a good understanding of how the fashion and construction industries greatly impact our environment - changes need to be made. In my opinion, if a big brand like Nike is willing to make changes on something as classic as the AF1, then this should be viewed as a positive and is something that we can all learn from.

4. Air Force 1 highs, mids, or lows?

Younger me would say highs, older me says lows!

5. Favourite memory in the AF-1’s?

Running around as a kid and not caring about whether my sneakers stay white/crisp. I do still like when my sneakers show some age and character, some people really hate me for this (my brother especially) 😊

6. What would you like to see change from the silhouette within the next 40 years?

In my opinion, I don’t think any change is necessary. I’m sure different materials and textures could introduce some fun elements, but I do like when things remain “classic”.
