Nike Cortez '72 "Shoe Dog" Collection 07.24.19
Here’s what could have been back in 1972. In Phil Knight’s memoir titled “Shoe Dog”, 3 designs were submitted for what we now know as the Nike Cortez. The longer, slim swoosh version was Carolyn Davidson’s first swoosh design and ended up being the final design of choice that would begin the sportswear phenomenon. With a large embroidered swoosh on the side, the Nike Cortez ’72 S.D. has a leather upper with a leather swoosh on the inside. Next, the falcon was a conceptual name conveying the speed and motion desired when encapsulating the essence of the first pair. The Dimension Six version was Phil Knight’s name of choice in the beginning and shows off a simpler design of a sphere with arched text. All pairs honour the original design with subtle design details including the flipped heel tab and retro Nike tongue tag embroidered over the old school foam tongue. The foam midsole cushions while showing off a herringbone outsole.
